MBI has won the CSI Collaboration of the Year Award as part of the Building Recognition in Chattanooga (BRIC) 2021 Awards for their work on the Chattanooga Airport Parking Garage. The Innovation Collaboration Award recognizes unique partnerships that lead to innovative design and construction solutions, while the BRIC awards highlight the best of the best in the design, construction, and sustainability fields.
Our team partnership and depth of knowledge started in Chattanooga with the Airport Authority and extended to the West Coast with MBI working with IPD and Culp & Tanner known as premier parking designers, and Hoar Construction and partner ASC who specialize in parking garage construction. With design and construction occurring in the thick of a national pandemic, collaboration and clear communication were of utmost importance. Our collaborative approach allowed for the free flow of ideas while finding solutions to many challenges related to site constraints, traffic flow, structural grid, ingress/egress, and relation to the existing terminal.
With this project, a new type of parking system was introduced and the first of its kind in the area. The new hybrid system combined the cast-in-place parking and precast parking structure systems. The new facility provides a total of 1,300 parking spaces for the Chattanooga Airport.
