The master plan and design created a consolidated home for the Center for Engineering, Technology, Arts & Sciences (CETAS) on the CSCC campus. It unified all CETAS instructional and administrative functions into a modernized academic facility. This supports collaboration, innovation, and student success.

The scope included renovation of approximately 33,000 SF accommodating general classrooms, laboratories, offices, conference rooms, restrooms, and supporting academic spaces. An additional 11,000 SF of previously unused second-floor space was renovated and brought up to code. This added new labs, restrooms, and a stairwell. New lighting, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, interior finishes, and furnishings were fully coordinated with the updated building layout.

The 1,200 SF, two-story lobby and entrance addition creates a prominent campus gateway. It visually connects both levels of the building. The entry features a curtain wall façade, cantilevered structural steel, a monumental staircase, and an elevator. Exterior improvements included repainting and the addition of custom 3D-printed screen walls to unify the building’s appearance.

Due to the age of the facility, hazardous materials and unforeseen conditions were encountered. MBI provided rapid, informed design solutions to address these challenges while maintaining project momentum and budget. The team also utilized 3D scanning technology to document existing conditions, materials, and dimensions, minimizing construction changes and improving coordination.

The completed project successfully connects multiple existing structures under a cohesive architectural theme. It does so by reusing materials and incorporating shapes and colors that reflect subtle undertones found across the CSCC campus.
