MBI was selected to design the renovation of the main floor of Fletcher Hall to accommodate the College of Business Student Success Center. By providing a space where students could easily access student and career counseling, the architectural treatment reflects the College’s goal to give the space a more corporate and engaging spatial quality. The Success Center includes faculty offices, reception areas, conference/board room, restroom upgrades, student activity area, and multiple areas or zones for student collaboration and research. Transparency and openness were important goals so students feel comfortable and welcome. The firm was previously selected to re-purpose the entire building (formerly the University/City Library built during the Depression) into a state-of-the-art facility to house the College of Business. The program involved a complete renovation of the 40,000 SF building, demolition of eight levels of book stacks, and the addition of 40,000 SF designed to complement the original architecture and surrounding buildings. Fletcher Hall is a prime example of sustainable architecture which required close attention to detail with respect to familiar elements and architectural treatments. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were removed and replaced while providing lecture halls, classrooms, and faculty offices.
