MBI provided complete architectural, engineering and interior design series for the additions and renovations for First Baptist of Concord. The additions to the campus consisted of Student Building, a Preschool Building, and a Gathering Space Building. The building is capable of being certified LEED NB Certified, however the certification process was not in the Owner’s budget. From the site design, to the HVAC and roofing system, LEED principals are shown throughout the project. The major component of the design is the geothermal heating and cooling system. The entire new addition is served by the geothermal field, as well as providing a load for the existing chiller to keep it from cycling off and on, reducing the overall energy load. A TPO or white roof was used on the entire building addition, even the portions of the building designed to have a future third floor. Because of this future use, tapered insulation was used which allowed us to further insulate the roof system beyond the norm. Occupancy sensors were used throughout the addition to monitor the lighting as well as the HVAC system. RT5 and suspended indirect fluorescent light fixtures are featured throughout the addition. Low VOC adhesives and paints were used throughout. Low flow/automatic fixtures throughout also enhance the environmentally responsible design.
