MBI provided comprehensive architectural, engineering, and interior design services for multiple additions and renovations at First Baptist Church of Concord. The campus expansion included a new Student Building, Preschool Building, and Gathering Space Building – enhancing ministry, education, and community engagement opportunities.
The project was designed to meet LEED New Building (LEED-NC) certification standards. However, formal certification was not pursued due to budget considerations. Sustainable design principles were integrated throughout, from site planning to building systems and material selection.
A key feature of the project is a geothermal heating and cooling system serving the entire new addition. The geothermal field also supports the existing chiller, reducing short cycling and lowering overall energy demand. High-performance TPO (white) roofing was installed across the additions, including areas designed for a future third floor. Enhanced tapered insulation further improves thermal performance beyond standard requirements.
Additional sustainable features include occupancy sensors for lighting and HVAC control, energy-efficient lighting fixtures throughout, and low-VOC paints and adhesives. Also, the use of low-flow and automatic plumbing fixtures. Together, these strategies deliver a durable, energy-efficient, and environmentally responsible church campus designed for long-term growth.
